NVIDIA's Ampere GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics cards were dubbed the company's "best launch ever" in its most recent investor presentation. According to NVIDIA's figures, the green team sold more Ampere graphics cards to PC gamers than ever before, resulting in a larger share of the market.
Ampere GeForce RTX 30 Series Graphics Cards Are NVIDIA's "Best GPU Launch Ever"
According to NVIDIA's maps, Ampere GPUs were the company's fastest ramping architecture to date, with twice the amount of end market shipments of GeForce RTX 30 graphics cards. During the first 18 weeks after launch, demand for GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards was enormous, and the ramp is still growing at an exponential pace.
NVIDIA also claims that Ampere GeForce RTX 30 graphics cards have more than double the market share in Steam compared to Turing. The findings are for the same time span after launch, and gamers are clamouring to get their hands on RTX 30 series graphics cards, despite the exorbitant prices that retailers are charging in the current market.
Comparison of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series Steam Market Share:
Graphics Card Name | Architecture | Market Share (March 2021) | Launch Date |
---|---|---|---|
GeForce RTX 2060 | Turing | 5.21% | January 2019 |
GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER | Turing | 2.54% | July 2019 |
GeForce RTX 2070 | Turing | 1.86% | October 2018 |
GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER | Turing | 1.52% | July 2019 |
GeForce RTX 3070 | Ampere | 1.33% | October 2020 |
GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER | Turing | 0.95% | July 2019 |
GeForce RTX 2080 | Turing | 0.88% | September 2018 |
GeForce RTX 3080 | Ampere | 0.87% | September 2020 |
GeForce RTX 2080 Ti | Turing | 0.82% | September 2018 |
GeForce RTX 3060 | Ampere | 0.39% | December 2020 |
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti | Ampere | 0.38% | February 2021 |
GeForce RTX 3090 | Ampere | 0.34% | September 2020 |
Another important fact revealed by NVIDIA is that the number of gamers buying up is increasing, implying that the majority of gamers are now purchasing high-end graphics cards costing more than $300 US. The latest average selling price for Ampere launch is $360, and there's a good reason for that. The graph depicts NVIDIA's higher-end GeForce RTX 3090, RTX 3080, and RTX 3070 graphics cards during their first six months on the market.
All of these RTX 30 options cost more than $500 US, and these figures make sense when you consider the inflated rates that users charged for them. The mainstream options, such as the RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3060, didn't become available until later this year, so their sales haven't had a significant impact on these rankings.
NVIDIA also boasts that its GeForce Gaming notebooks have developed at a +20 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR), outpacing the entire PlayStation 2020 lineup. Not only RTX models, but all GeForce gaming laptops are included in these figures. Despite the large number of GPUs delivered, the installed base of GeForce RTX GPUs stands at 15%, with the remaining 85% of GeForce gamers using non-RTX GPUs. The forthcoming GeForce RTX 3050 series could change that, as it will make more gamers get on the RTX bandwagon, but supply and availability problems will be the key concerns going forward.
