The Samsung Odyssey G9 2021 monitor may be the first to be certified for VESA DisplayHDR 2000.

The impressive Samsung Odyssey G9 gaming display was first unveiled in 2020, and its high-quality 49-inch curved screen inspired many people. Samsung unveiled the Odyssey G9's revised 2021 variant last month, and now further details have surfaced thanks to a new Taobao page.

The Samsung Odyssey G9 will have a Quantum MiniLED panel with a 240Hz refresh rate and support for G-Sync.

Samsung confirmed a few specifics in the original release, including the Odyssey G9's Quantum MiniLED panel. According to a Samsung spokesman,

The Odyssey G9 gaming monitor generated a lot of hype in 2020, and this year, Samsung is taking it to the next level with a Quantum MiniLED panel and premium gaming functionality. Gamers will have an environment unlike any other thanks to the 1000R screen curvature and Quantum MiniLED monitor technology. Samsung's complete lineup of curved and flat Odyssey gaming monitors also includes the updated G9.
It caused a lot of hype last year, and it'll probably create even more this year. The Odyssey G9's lengthy list of features is detailed in the Taobao listing. DisplayHDR 1400, with a peak luminance of 1400 nits (cd/m2), is currently the highest VESA Certified DisplayHDR rating. While no such certification exists today, the Odyssey G9 has VESA DisplayHDR 2000 certification. The Odyssey G9 is expected to be the first to receive this certification, and the certification will most likely be announced when the Odyssey G9's full specifications are revealed.

The Odyssey G9 boasts a total brightness of 2000 nits, double what the 2020 model had, with the recent VESA DisplayHDR 2000 rating. The panel itself is a 5120 to 1440 (dual QHD) VA 49-inch panel with the same curvature as a sample last year. The monitor now has MiniLED backlight with 2048 local dimming areas and an expansion of 4000:1 contrast ratio.

The Samsung Odyssey G9 has been upgraded to a 240Hz refresh rate, making gaming much more enjoyable. Both NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Pro will be supported. The model will retain the 10-bit colour depth and 95 percent DCI-P3 colour coverage from the 2020 model, in addition to the new features.

The estimated ship date for the Samsung Odyssey G9 2021 gaming monitor listed on Taobao is June of this year, which is one year after the launch of the 2020 edition. The Taobao page shows a price of $4,580 (converted from 29,999 RMB), but this is clearly a placeholder, as the 2020 edition costs $1,479.99.
